What were the 4 main aims of the League?
Prevent aggression
Encourage co-operation between nations
work towards international disarmament
Improve the living and working conditions of all peoples
What were the main powers the League could enforce on a aggressive country?
Say that it disproved with the actions the country was taking
Impose economic and financial sanctions and encourage other countries to stop trade with the aggressor
Use military force against an aggressor e.g. go to war
Did the League have an army?
No, the League had to rely on the members to provide an army to fight any aggressor. Since the USA was not part of the League they had to rely on Britain and France to provide one. If they did not the the League would be powerless
Why were economic sanctions hard to enforce?
Members were unwilling to stop trading with other countries because it would damage their own trade aswell as the aggressors
Who were the 4 permanent members of the league?
Britain, France, Italy and Japan
Did the USA ever join the league?
No, even through the idea was Wilson’s the USA never joined
Were Germany allowed to join the League? If so then why?
There was so much hate for Germany after WWI that they were not allowed to join the League of nations. After seven years they eventually were acepted into the laegue.
