Why did the USA not join the league?

A

In fear of economical sanctions, a lot of Americans were against the European empires, the fear of more casualties, and the league enforced the Treaty which to Americans with German ancestors was unacceptable.

A

It consisted of Japan, Britain, Italy and France that were permanent members, and four temporary members were elected by the assembly. Each permanent member had a veto right.

It could punish countries through:
–moral condemnation, it could say who was “the aggressor”
–trade sanctions, members of the League stop trading with “the aggressor”
