Define leadership
Process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal
Describe 2 ways to choose a leader
Prescribed - appointed by an outside organising body
Emergent - come from the group itself either because of skill or being nominated
What’s the basic leadership model

What are the three types of leadership
Autocratic
Democratic
Lassez-faire

Not flexible in approach

Members stop if leader is absent
Aggressive if goes wrong
Effective when decisions need to be made

Leaders made not born
Anyone can become a good leader

Develop relationships with people in the group
Maintain communication
Social interaction between themselves and members

Effective with high level athletes
What characteristics do task-oriented leaders show
Concerned with goals and objectives
Create plans

Ensure people stay on task
Effective with less experienced/skilled performers

Situation has a required behaviour AND preferred behaviour
Members have a leadership style the prefer (preferred behaviour)
Leader is predisposed into certain behaviour.
This is influenced by what is required and what is preferred
Actual behaviour gives an outcome on performance and satisfaction of group
