What is equilibrium
Equilibrium is the state where the forward and the revese reactions happen at the same rate
What is Le chateliers principle
Le chateliers principle is that if a system is at equilibrium and a change is made to the conditions , the system will respond to counteract the change
What affect does increasing pressure have on the position of equilibrium
If you increase the pressure of a reversible reaction at equilibrium the equilibrium will shift to the side with the smaller number of molecules to counteract that change (ie more of that side will be formed)
What affect does decreasing the pressure have on the position of equilibrium
If you decrease the pressure of a reversible reaction at equilibrium the equilibrium will shift to the side with the larger amount of molecules to counteract the change ( e.g more of the side with the larger amount of molecules will be made)
What happens to the position of equilibrium if you increase the pressure on a reaction taht has the same amount of molecules on both sides
If you change the pressure on a reaction that has the same amount of molecules on each side , it will have no effect
What happens to the temperature of a system if the reaction is exothermic in one direction
If the reaction is exothermic in one direction energy is released and the temperature of the system will increase
What happens to the temperature of the system if the reaction is endothermic in one direction
If the reaction is endothermic in one direction energy is taken in and the temperature will decrease
What will the reverse reaction be if the forwards reaction is endothermic
If the forwards reaction is endothermic the reverse reaction will be the opposite so it will be exothermic
What will happen to the position of equilbrium if there is an increase in temperature
If there is an increase in temperature of the system then the equilibrium will shift towards the side with the endothermic reaction so that the temperature will be decreased and the change will be counteracted
What happens to the position of equilibrium if there is a decrease in temperature of the system ?
If there is a decrease in temperature of the system the equilbrium will shift towards which ever side is exothermic to counteract the change and increase the temperature
What happens to the amount of products formed when equilbrium shifys
When equilbrium shifts, more products will form of whatever side it shifts to
What happens if you increase the concentration of reactants
If you increase the concentration of reactants the system will try to counteract the change by making more products
What happens to the position of equilibrium when the concentration of the reactants increases
When you increase the concentration of reactants equilbirium will shift and form more products to counteract the change

When you decrease the concentration of products more products will be formed to counteract the change
What happens when you increase the concentration of products
When you increase the concentration of products more reactants will reform to counteract the change
