LDAs Flashcards
What is the first structure you will come across on the right flank of the cow?
Curtain of omentum, duodenum running along it horizontally
In LDA how does omentum differ?
Omentum feels tight and stretched - omentum slackens off when it has been righted and duodenum starts to have ingesta passing through it
What is the first structure you come across on the left flank?
Rumen , spleen cranially, reticulum ventral cranially
Which side do you usually enter for a c section?
Left
Which side do you enter for a LDA?
Right
When does LDA usually occour?
Transition from dry to milking cow. Loss of foetus ^ space in abdomen. Diet changed. Overflow of VFAs from rumen -> paralysed abomasum. No one knows exactly.
Why may cows presenting with LDA sometimes not show signs when they reach vets?
Bumpy journey has shaken abomasum back into place
What happens to the pylorus in RDA?
Moves ventrally -> under abomasum -> torsion
How can gas be removed from the abomasum?
Stick a needle in! Cows will NOT get peritonitis (only local)
Abomasum - abomasum - no log of your work
