-Answers that look appealing, but incorrect more than 99% of the time

Do not:

F. Focus on unresolved issues, underly causes, psychoanalysis ex. history/origin of depression
A. Advice give ex. tell client to get a job
R. Recommend a ‘support group’
M. Make appointment for your therapy

G. Give pamphlets or literature
R. Recommend a therapy session - that’s a “Do later!”
I. Inform parents/speak to parents
T. Terminate (3 exceptions - you or client are moving, client reaches goals/nothing new/nocrisis, client is not paying for sessions + no crisis)
S. Speak to the supervisor (except counter transference, personal conflicts/problems or bias against client)
R. Respect self-determination (if client is unstable/impared)
O. Offer the contract as a reminder to the client
A. Allow clients to lead the session
D. Do nothing/say nothing

Do not treat:

R. Rule out medical - “physical complaints” - ex. headaches, pain, sexual disfunction - refer to physician for medical evaluation
U. Under the influence/Delusional/Hallucinating - Do not treat - if delusional/halluculating - refer to psychiatrist
S. Save Lives - - Intent, bruises, plan - duty to warn, report abuse, 911, etc.

Start with client:
A. Assess before action - Assess, Ask, or D.I.C.E - Determine, Identify, Clarify, Explore
F. Feelings or concerns - Acknowledge clients feelings, A.I.D - Assist, inform, discuss concerns
E. Empower - if client is mentally stablee/alert - respect client’s decision, encourage community to help themselves
