A

no clinically significant adverse drug interactions

17
Q

PI

A

lots of water
acts as fibre supplement
dose can be adjusted

18
Q

indication of lactulose and macrogol

A

constipation
bowel prep prior to surgery/endoscopy
HE

19
Q

MOA

A

osmotically active substance
not digestions or absorbed and remain in gut lumen
hold water ijn the stool
stimulates peristalsis

20
Q

MOA in HE

A

reduces ammonia absorption by increasing gut transit rate

21
Q

SE of lactulose

A

cramping
farting
nausea
diarrhoea electrolyte disturbances

22
Q

warning

A

contraindicated in obstruction - risk of perforation

in caution with Heart failure and ascitres

23
Q

drug interactions

A

may increase warfarin effects

24
Q

doses

A

15ml x2 daily but 30-50ml in HE 3x a day

enema once daily

25
Q

which of the three causes nausea?

A

lactulose

26
Q

which should not be used in heart failure?

A

lactulose

27
Q

outline difference between 3

A

[1] increase in water and eleclytoe secretions from colonic musoca

[2] relies on non-digestable bulk- draws water in

(£) osmotlyitcal active substance not digested drawing water in

28
Q

which can be used for bowel prep?

A

lactulose

29
Q

which can cause melaonosis coli

A

senna

30
Q

which replaces fibre?

A

isphagula husk
