Latitudes And Longitudes Flashcards
Geocentric latitudes
Measured at the centre of the earth from a line starting from the centre of the earth
Geodetic latitude
Based on a line crossing the surface at 90*
May not be measured at the earths surface due to the shape of the earth
Used in charts
Max difference between geocentric and geodetic
N45 and S45
Meridians of longitude
Longitudinal angle between Greenwich and the current position
Change of direction east and west
East = numbers increase
West = numbers decrease
Change of longitude
Movement along a parallel of latitude
If the result of the added degrees = >180* subtract from 360*
Anti meridian
A meridian that is complete opposite another e.g the anti meridian for Greenwich is 180*
