Intro To Charts Flashcards
Graticule
Lines of equal latitude and longitude
Conical projections
Uses cones with a small circle as the circle of tangency e.g parallel of latitude
Lamberts projection
Plane projection
Flat plane that the earth is projected onto from the opposite end of the earth, so only has one point fo contact
Used for polar stereographic charts
Cylindrical projections
Piece of paper is wrapped around the earth with the earth projected onto it from the centre of the earth.
Has a great circle as its tangency, a direct Mercator chart is an example of this
Orthomorphic chart
A conformal chart
Graticule must cross at right angles
Scale is the same or changes equally in all directions locally
Scale is correct and all angles are correct
Grid MORA
Min off route altitude
If you fly at this alt you will not hit anything
Min mast height on a chart
Less than 300ft then the mast doesn’t need to be reported to the CAA
