Last test for freshman year gonna miss it ngl Flashcards
What is the difference between DNA and RNA for nitrogenous bases
RNA A is to U and G is to C
The only thing thats different is T switches to U
DNA A is to T and G is to C
Single Vs Double Stranded
RNA is single and DNA is double stranded
THe sugar groups of RNA and DNA
DNA has dexoribose(A type of ribose that lacks one oxygen atom) and Rna is ribose
Where do you find DNA and RNA
DNA only found in the nucleus
RNA is found in the nucleus AND cytoplasm
Transcription
the process of making an RNA copy of a gene’s DNA sequence
DNA: A C G T
RNA: U G C A
Where does transcription happen
It happens in the Nucleus
Splcing
The removal of non coding introns and keeping coding exons
Translation
Know how to figure out amino acid from codon
basically the AUG stuff
What does mRNA do
Copies information in DNA for protein synthesis (instructions)
rRNA - ribosomal
Codes for the ribosome
tRNA - transfer
Brings the amino acid to the ribosome
Point mutation
Point Mutations - changes affect few nucleotides (at a single spot)
a mutation affecting only one or very few nucleotides in a gene sequence.
Silent
Changes nucleotide but still codes for the same amino acid
Nonsense
Causes the premature termination, an insertion, or substitution of a protein
Missense
Affects only one codon (changes the codon letters)
