CI’d in hypersensitive, BBW skin rash, watch for steven johnson syndrome, follow titration schedule.

225-375 mg BID.

Travopost(travatan) dosing/strength?

A

Xalatan, Travatan. Prostaglandin analog which increases the outflow of aqueous humor.

CI’d hypersensitive, watch for ereythmia of eyelid, burning of eyes, conjunctival hyperemia. Travoprost has increased eyelash growth, ocular hyperemia.

1 qtt in affected eyes qpm, .005% solution.

.004% solution same dosing.

Lidocaine(lidoderm) dosing/strength?

A

Xylocaine, Lidoderm. Blocks both the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses by decreasing the neuronal membrane’s permeability to sodium ions.

Bacterial infection, hypersensitive, tramautized mucosa. BBW is life threatening and fatal events in infants and young children. Watch for erythema and skin edema.

comes as patch, injection, IV, solution, etc. patch is 5%, 1-3 patches up to 12h within a 24 hr period.

Rasuvo, Trexall. Irreversibly inhibits dihydrofolate reductase, interfering with DNA sythesis, repair, and cellular replication.

LOTS of bad stuff for all.

tab, solution(injection and oral), subq kit. 7.5 or 10-25 mg once weekly. 2.5 mg tab.

Mometasone(asmanex) dosing/strength?

A

Medrol. Nasonex, asmanex, elocon. Decreases inflammation by suppression of migration of
polymorphonuclear leukocytes and reversal of increased capillary permeability.

fungal infection, viruses, IV administration, watch for milk proteins with mometasone. Watch for oral thrush, increase in glucose, edema, etc.

4-48 mg in 1-4 divided doses. 40-60 mg per day.

two sprays in each nostril once daily, one puff BID. comes as cream, gel, ointment, lotion, solution. 0.1%.

Montelukast(singulair) bbw/ci’s/ key points?

A

Singulair. Antagonizes leukotriene receptors, leading to relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle. 10 mg qday.

CI’d in hypersensitivity, watch for cough, bronchitis, take in evening.

A

Niaspan, Inhibits of release of free fatty acids from adipose tissue and increases lipoprotein lipase activity.

CI’d in active liver disease, peptic ulcer, arterial hemmorhage. Watch for flushing reaction, hepatic injury, can take with cold water or food to reduce flushing, flushing subsides over time.

1.5-3 g daily in 2-3 divided doses. 500-1000 mg tabs, comes as powder.

Omega 3 fatty acids(lovaza) key points/BBW/CI’s?

A

Lovaza, Reduction in hepatic production of VLDL and a reduction in the hepatic synthesis of triglycerides. 2g BID or 4 g qday. 300mg-1g capsule.

CI’d hypersensitivity, watch for diarrhea, nausea, pain, fish allergies.

Phenytoin(dilantin) key points/BBW/CI’s?

A

Dilantin, Phenytek.Stabilizes neuronal membranes and decreases seizure activity by increasing efflux or decreasing influx of sodium ions across cell membranes. 300-600 mg BID or TID. Comes injection. 100-300 mg capsules.

BBW is CV risk with injectable. CI’d in delvardine, hepatoxicity associated with phenytoin. Watch for altered mental status, decrease in WBC’s, gingival hyperplaysia, hirsutism.

CI’s and key points? NO BBW.

A

K-tab, Klor con, Mico-K. Yup. 20-100 mEq one -4 times daily. 8,10,20 mEq. Comes IV and packet. and oral solution and tab. Max 20-25 mEq per dose.

CI’d in hyperkalemia and medicines that retain potassium, GI slowage. Watch for hyperkalemia and IV form phlebitis.

A

Lyrica(class V), Binds to alpha2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels within the CNS and modulates calcium influx at the nerve terminals, thereby inhibiting excitatory neurotransmitter release .

CI’d in hypersensitivity, watch for weight gain, drowsiness, edema, dizziness.

150-300 mg BID to TID. Comes as capsule and solution. 25-300 mg.

Trazadone, Inhibits reuptake of serotonin, causes adrenoreceptor subsensitivity, and significantly blocks histamine (H1) and alpha1-adrenergic receptors.

Same as SSRI’s.

50-100 mg BID to TID. Tab 50-300 mg.

Calan, Verelan. Inhibits calcium ions from entering select voltage-sensitive areas of vascular smooth muscle and myocardium during depolarization.

CI’d hypotension, sick sinus syndrome, watch for bradycardia, constipation, peripheral edema, lightheadedness, hypotension.

80-160 mg TID, 240-480 mg in one or 2 doses daily. Comes with IV.
