Large Intestine Meridian Flashcards
LI 20 location, insertion and needle depth, use?
Nasolabial groove at the level of the midpoint of the nasal ala. It is the last point of the LI meridian and is on the opposite side of the body from the rest of the meridian.
Insertion is obliquely, superiorly and medially towards the bridge of the nose at a depth of 0.25 - 0.5 cun.
Bell’s palsy affecting the side of the nose and mouth, ansomia and perosmia, trigeminal neuralgia involving V2
LI 15 location, insertion and needle depth, use?
Arm abducted, identify the anterior tip of the acromion, slide down into the depression/dimple btw the ant and middle fibers of the deltoid.
Intra-articular, toward the mid point of the axilla at a depth of 1-1.5 cun.
Pain and inflammation anywhere in the shoulder joint, ligaments and tendons, subdeltoid bursitis, arthritis, capsulitis, tendonitis.
LI 11 location, insertion and needle depth, use?
Transverse cubital crease, midpoint btw the lateral edge of the biceps aponeurosis and the most prominent point of the lateral epicondyle, in the depression btw ECRL and bracioradialis
Aim towards the mid point of the elbow joint at a depth of 1-1.5 cun
Sympathetic switch, pain and inflammation of the lateral aspect of the elbow, lateral epicondylitis, sprain/strain of the lateral collateral ligament or common extensor tendon, radial tunnel syndrome, tendinitis of ECRB, supinator and anconeus, OA of elbow
LI 10 location, insertion and needle depth, use?
2 cun distal to LI 11 on a line connecting LI 11 and LI 5 in the depression between the brachio radialis and ECRL
Perpendicular at a depth of 1-1.2 cun
Tennis elbow, lateral elbow pain coming from musculotendinous junction of ECRB, inflammation involving the lateral aspect of the elbow
LI 4 location, insertion and needle depth, use?
At the level of the mid point of the second MCP, midway btw the first and second meta carpal
Perpendicular at a depth of 0.5 cun
Sympathetic switch, OA of hand and wrist, De Quervain’s, headache, neck pain, pain in upper extremity, carpel tunnel syndrome
LI 5 location, insertion and needle depth, use?
At the base of the anatomical snuff box, just distal to the styloid process btw the tendons of extensor policis longus and brevis
Perpendicular at a depth of 0.3 to 0.5 cun
Sympathetic switch, de Quervain’s tenosynovitis, OA and RA of the wrist and hand and collateral ligament sprain
LI 12 location, insertion and needle depth, use?
1 cun superolateral to LI 11 on the supracondylar ridge of the humerus, at the insertion of brachioradialis and ECRL
Perpendicular at a depth of 1-1.5 cun
Tennis elbow involving brachioradialis
ECRL
LI 14 location, insertion and needle depth, use?
On the line connecting LI 15 and LI 11, 3 cun below LI 15. It is anterior and superior to the deltoid tubercle on the ant margin of the deltoid.
Perpendicular or oblique inferior to superior at a depth of 0.8-1.5 cun
Pain and inflammation of the deltoid, restricted abduction and elevation, subdeltoid bursitis
LI 16 location, insertion and needle depth, use?
In the depression medial to the acromion and posterior to the AC joint
Superior to inferior, for shoulder problems direct the needle obliquely from medial to laetearl and superior to inferior at a depth of 1-1.5 cun
RC tendinitis, AC separation and improve shoulder rotation
Trace the Large Intestine Meridian, count out the number of points and say if it is yin or yang.
20 points, Yang, Sympathetic
