Languages in The Eighth Schedule

Currently, there are 22 languages listed in the Eighth
Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

Answer 1

Initially, 14 languages were included in the Eighth
Schedule: Assamese, Hindi, Malayalam, Punjabi,
Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, Marathi, Sanskrit, Urdu,
Gujarati, Kashmiri, Odia, and Tamil.

21st Constitutional Amendment Act of 1967 added
Sindhi.

Answer 2

71st Amendment Act of 1992 added Konkani,
Manipuri, and Nepali.

Question 3

92nd Amendment Act of 2003 added Bodo, Maithili,
Dogri, and Santhali.
