What is a concrete noun and examples?
Something that can be perceived through the five senses, e.g. table, apple, rabbit
What is an abstract noun and examples?
Intangible ideas that can’t be received the five senses, such as social concepts, political theories, and character to traits e.g. love, creativity, democracy.
What is a collective noun and examples?
Refers to a group that functions as one unit or performs the same action at the same time, e.g. crowd, flocks, committee.
What is a compound noun and examples?
Combines two or more words into one, e.g. dry-cleaning, toothpaste, ice cream.
What is a countable (count noun) and examples?
A noun you can count, e.g. table, apple, rabbit.
What is an uncountable (mass noun) and examples?
A noun that cannot be counted, e.g. salt, seafood, advice.
What is a main verb?
The main action of the sentence.
What is a dynamic verb and examples?
Describes an action, process or movement., e.g. run, jump, dance.
What is a stative verb and examples?
Describes a state of being or condition, e.g. see, be, like.
What is a transitive verb?
Transitive verb = object = add noun or it.
What is an intransitive verb?
Intransitive verb = (In=no, Inno) = no object = can’t add noun or it.
What is a primary auxiliary verb and examples?
“Helping verb” = verbs which assist the main verb, e.g. be, do, have.
What is a deontic modal auxiliary verb?
Deontic modal auxiliary verbs express obligation, necessity, permission (request), ability, advice or recommendation. E.g. should, must, ought to, can, could.
What is an epistemic auxiliary verb?
Epistemic modal auxiliary verbs express possibility, probability, certainty or likelihood of a situation. E.g. might, could, may, will, would.
What is a copular verb and examples?
A linking verb, e.g. be, is, was.
What is an attributive adjective and example?
They come right before the noun, e.g. she has a red car.
What is a predicative adjective and example?
They come after a copular verb, e.g. the car is fast.
What is a distributive adjective and examples?
Refers to members of a group individually, e.g. every, either, neither, both, some.
What is an interrogative adjective and examples?
Used to ask questions, e.g. what, which, whose.
What is a participial adjective and example?
words that end in -ed or -ing and derive from verbs, e,g. I have my swimming lessons now.
What is a comparative adjective and examples?
Used to compare, e.g. higher, cuter, better, more/less expensive.
What is a superlative adjective and examples?
Used to indicate the most extreme form, e.g. highest, cutest, best, most/least expensive.
