What are language functions?
the purposes for which people speak or write
(ask for advice, reach agreement, complain about something)
What kind of expressions do we know?
informal, neutral, formal
What determines what kind of language you use?
the situation you’re in
What are the 4 main things you need to register before you decide what language to use?
- the setting (where you are and when)
- topic (what you’re discussing/talkng about)
- social relationship (who you’re talking to)
- psychological attitude (how you feel about the topic and/or person)
Why is it important to say the right thing at the right time?
it helps to communicate effectively
Why is appropriate communication good?
it improves communication
Why is inappropriate use ofc ommunication bad?
disrupted communication may lead to a BREAKDOWN in communication due to MISINTERPRETATION
