When the Jamaicans arrived what kind of language was formed ?
London Jamaican.
What word is used to Describe the Jamaican language ?
Creole.
What is the word used to describe the mixing of different accents and dialects?

What happened when London Jamaican began to popularise ?
Those who had access to London Jamaican went to school and was in the same social group as white middle class people.
This created a lot of variety’s of English. (BBE)
What is BBE and what does it stand for?
British Black English
This is when Standard English and Creole come together to form a specific dialect.
What is the new English forming in London amongst young people ?
Multicultural London English

What does Hewitt argue ?
Hewitt studied the relationship between black and white adolescents in urban environments.
He studied what influenced or subverted them.
What did Hewitt’s research show ?
His research showed that young people who spoke local English could show respect and solidarity by using Jamaican Creole.

They interviewed and made audio recordings of Carribean youths in a youth club.
What did Drey and Sebba find out ?
They expected Creole to only be exclusive to the Caribbean community.
However, they found that Creole was used by a range of people with a range multi-cultural ethnic background.
