what is the difference between Rhythm and repetition?
Repetition is the pattern while rhythm is how frequent the repetition happens.
Focalization
The dominate feature in a composition
How are straight lines, curved lines, and vertical lines used in a composition?
Straight lines = Structured and forceful. They lead eyes to a focal point
Curved lines = informal and relaxed. They help to slow the eye down.
Vertical Lines = create space. They tell the eye how high to look up.
How can a circular form be used in a garden?
Circular forms slow down the eye. a focal point can be placed in the middle to give that feature a spotlight.
What form should the majority of composition have?
Familiar and simple forms. Only one or two complex forms should be used as a focal point.
I want to use a plant as my focal point. What type of texture should should I pick?
Coarse-textured plants attract the eye because of the light/dark contrasts.
What texture should I look for in a plant intended to be used as background?
Fine texture plants are dense and predictable. Simple/less pattern blends in better with its environment
What color scheme plant is best used as a background?
Monochromatic color scheme
What color scheme is described as being in harmony with neighboring plants?
Analogous color schemes because they are adjacent on color wheel
What are “cool” colors and what emotion are they used for?
Calming/relaxing. Use in areas meant for relaxation and serenity.
