Landing Pattern Flashcards
Landing Pattern
Break Entry
- Wings level, 170 KIAS, 1000 ft AGL
- Smoothly roll into a level bank, no more than 45º AOB
- Simultaneously reduce power to 300-500 ft-lbs (Pull back to gear horn then just above)
- “Speed checks, flaps approach”
- “Speed checks, gear down, landing checklist”
- Adjust AOB to roll out on downwind with the runway on the lift detector (1 mile abeam)
- Slow to 120 KIAS on downwind and then descend to pattern altitude.
Normal Pattern
Upwind:
- 120 KIAS (Max 130 KIAS in pattern)
- 300’ AGL - Begin crosswind turn with interval (“Clear left, turning left”)
– 15º ahead of wing, abeam if they’re in crosswind
– 30º behind wingtip if known to be full stop
- Props 1900 RPM
Crosswind:
- Max AOB 30º
- 600’ AGL Flaps – Approach (“Speed checks, flaps approach”)
- Reduce power to ~500-600 ft-lbs
- Level off at 800’ at 120 KIAS
- Landing Checklist as soon as practicable (“Gear down, landing checklist”)
Downwind:
- 1 mile abeam (AOA probe on runway)
“180”:
Make call to Tower
Approach Turn:
- Abeam intended point of landing
- Set power to ~300-375 ft-lbs
- 15-30 degrees AOB
“90”:
- 500’ AGL
- 110 KIAS
- Check 3 green lights, gear down and locked (“Three Down and Locked”)
- (Flaps – Down (No earlier))
Final:
- Roll out 1000-1200’ from threshold at 250’ AGL
- 105/110 KIAS (Flaps/No Flaps)
- Place props full forward, check gear down (“Props full forward, 3 down and locked, review me complete.”)
Landing:
- Cross threshold at 95/105 KIAS (Flaps/No Flaps)
- Touchdown on first 1000’ of runway.
- Keep centerline and crosswind corrections applied
- No-flap Landing
– In case of simulated or actual flap malfunction brief the following:
“Open the NATOPS and review the Flap System Failure procedures. It will direct us to verify current flap position, reset flap handle to previously selected position, verify new flap configuration, and pull the wing flap motor circuit breaker. This will be a no-flap pattern, new speeds 110 and 105. Any questions?”
Touch and Go:
- State “Reset Flaps and Trim,” then advance the power levers to the 12 o’clock position
- When the PM calls “Go,” set takeoff power.
- With a minimum of 91 KIAS and takeoff power set, execute a normal takeoff when the PM calls “Rotate.”
