Landing Gear system description Flashcards
How is the landing gear operated
Hydraulically actuated via a reversible electrical pump.
How is the gear maintained in the retracted and extended position respectively?
Hydraulic pressure keeps the gear retracted. Should a leak develop springs, and aerodynamic loads will cause it to drop and downlock hooks pressurized by springs lock the gear into place.
In case of an emergency extension, why should the gear selector be placed in the down position before pulling the emergency gear extension knob?
Placing the gear selector in the down position prevents the pump from trying to raise the gear.
Describe the nose gear steering
Steering arc is 42 degrees, upon retraction the steering linkage is disconnected to reduce rudder pedal loads. Shimmy tendencies are reduced by a gear centering spring
Where is the hydraulic reservoir located?
Behind a panel in the nose baggage compartment
