LANDING GEAR AND BRAKES Flashcards
What hydraulic system normally actuates gear extension and retraction?
No.2
What does the gear lever electrically control?
Solenoid selector valve and sends signal to PSEU
When is the gear lever locked?
Gear lever is locked up and down by the gear lever selector button.
How are the gear doors operated?
Nose gear: fwd door hydraulic, rear linked to gear leg
Main gear: rear door hydraulically operated, centre linked to rear, fwd linked to gear
How is the main gear locked up and down?
locked down with overcentre link, operated by the stabiliser actuator. locked up with mechanical uplock actuator, hydraulically released but can be manually released.
How is the nose gear locked up and down?
Locked down by the drag strut, controlled by the drag strut actuator, same in the up position(over centre link)
What do the green lights indicate?
The associated gear is down and locked.
What do the red lights indicate?
The gear is neither locked up or down and the position of the lever and gear disagree. The light in the gear handle comes on when the position of the lever and gear disagree.
What lights will illuminate when the landing gear is in transit?
Red gear lights aswell as the door lights.
If the LDG GEAR INOP caution light illuminates, what is the problem?
The gear sequence valve has a malfunction and the normal extension must not be used.
What pre-caution should be taken if the LDG GEAR INOP caution light is on?
Alternate extension procedure
When will the landing gear warning horn sound? When can the landing gear warning horn be muted?
1: gear not down and locked, flap 15 or more, auto fx off, both pwr
When can it not be muted?
1: gear not down and locked, flap 15 or more, auto fx off, both pwr
What airspeed restriction is placed on alternate gear extension?
140kts
What is the effect of opening the LANDING GEAR ALTERNATE RELEASE door?
Overhead door, bypasses normal extension circuit and exposes the main gear extension handle.
What is the effect of opening the LANDING GEAR ALTERNATE EXTENSION panel?
closes the emergency selector valve, isolating the main gear from the system also exposes the nose gear extension handle, hand pump socket and gear lights
Describe briefly the main gear alternate extension procedure?
Gear lever down, open both doors, pull handle from above, pump down if green lights not illuminated.
How is the nose gear extended by alternate means?
Handle in floor pull
What light indications confirm alternate gear extension?
3 greens on the selector panel and/or in the emergency gear indicator (taxi light off). 3 door lights
Why should the gear lever be placed in the DOWN position for an alternate extension?
The gear inhibit only inhibit extension not retraction
What does the PSEU control(gear)?
Sequencing of gear and doors during extension and retraction
Through what range is nose-wheel steering operable.
7deg both ways with rudder and 60 deg with the tiller, can caster up to 120 deg both directions
What happens if you exceed the nose-wheel steering range?
Nose steering caution light comes on and the wheel will caster.
What does the NOSE STEERING caution light tell you?
The unit has failed, hydraulic pressure failed or greater than 60 deg deflection
Is reverse taxiing approved? Can we steer whilst reversing?
Yes but no steering and only on paved surfaces max XW 10kts
How is the nose wheel steering system armed?
Nose wheel steering switch on captains side console
What hydraulic system supplies normal brakes?
No.1
What hydraulic system supplies emergency brakes?
No.2
With which braking system is the antiskid available?
No.1
Explain what wheel speeds are critical to antiskid operation?
All wheel speeds are monitored and any deviation from the average is considered skidding. operational above 17kts
What brings on an ANTI SKID caution light?
test switch or a malfunction or an off selection
How is the anti-skid tested?
when it is switched on the caution lights must switch off within 6 seconds.
What should the PARK BRAKE pressure gauge read after a No.1 hydraulic failure? What should the PARK BRAKE pressure gauge read after a No. 2 hydraulic failure?
No.2 system pressure, Accumulator pressure (1000PSI)
With a fully charged brake accumulator and without No.2 system pressure; how many brake applications are available?
4
Is differential braking available with emergency brakes?/ Is differential braking available with Normal brakes?
No, yes with normal.
What is the function of the brake control valves in the normal braking system?
manually control flow of fluid to the anti skid valves
What is the minimum park brake pressure required prior to engine start?
1500PSI, 2500PSI overnight
Prior to engine start you notice that the park brake pressure is below minimum dispatch. How can we increase park brake available pressure prior to engine start?
Hand pump in right engine nacelle
What does the take-off warning monitor?
Elevator trim flaps >15, <5 Condition lever not at max park brake set to park ECU not at TOP
