What areas of the Dash 8 are fixed fire extinguishers provided for?
Two for the engines and one for the APU. and one in the lavatory for the waste bin. 3 portables in the cabin.
What indications will the crew get when an engine fire is detected?
Engine fire light, pull fuel handle illuminated, check fire det warning, master warning, fire bell.
Will the Engine fire extinguishing system activate automatically upon detection of a fire?
No.
What indications will the crew get when smoke is detected in the baggage compartment?
The smoke warning light comes on and the master warning.
What will happen when smoke is detected in the lavatory?
The alarm will sound and the lav smoke light will illuminate on the FA panel
How many smoke detectors are fitted to the aircraft?
one in the lavatory and 2 in the baggage compartment.
How are the fire extinguisher discharge circuits powered?
Battery bus. (hot)
How is the engine fire extinguishing system armed?
The pull fuel off handle arms the system and cuts hydraulics and fuel to the engine.
Where are the portable fire extinguishers located?
One behind the captain, one in the overhead locker in the middle of the cabin and one on the rear bulkhead.
Whilst conducting a walk-around inspection of the airframe how will you be able to determine that a fire extinguisher bottle has been used?
There is a yellow disc and a red disk under the left wing root. the yellow indicates a discharge and the red indicates a thermal discharge.
