Landing Gear Flashcards
How is the landing gear controlled?
Hydraulically actuated and electrically controlled by the proximity sensing system (PSS)
What powers the landing gear and nose wheel steering?
Hydraulic system #3
How is the main landing gear held up when retracted?
Mechanical uplocks
How is the gear held down in the extended position?
Locking mechanisms in the main landing gear side strut actuators
What happens when the gear is retracted?
- Landing gear solenoid is released
- landing gear selector valves energized to release downlocks
- uplocks are engaged when gear is fully retracted
What happens when the gear is extended?
- Landing gear selector valves energized to release uplocks
- landing gear downlocks are hydraulically and mechanically engaged
Nose wheel steering limit?
80°
Rudder steering limit
8°
What type of tires are on the nose wheel?
Chine tires that help redirect water from the engines
What powers the inboard and outboard brakes?
Inboard - hydraulic system # 3
Outboard - hydraulic system # 2
What stops the main wheels from spinning on gear retraction?
Hydraulic pressure from the nose landing gear is applied to the brake control valves
What does stopping the wheel rotation accomplish?
Eliminates the gyroscopic precession caused by the spinning wheels
With loss of hydraulic system 1 and 2, will you have braking?
Yes, 6 brake applications with the anti-skid off supplied by the accumulators
How must the brake wear indicators be checked?
Brakes applied and hydraulic systems # 2 and 3 pressurized
Which brakes will hold for a prolonged period with the parking brake set?
The inboard brakes
Minimum wheel speed for anti-skid operation
10 knots
When is the anti-skid operation on landing?
Wheel speed of 35 knots or WOW signal plus 5 seconds
After detection of an overheated brake, will the box remain red?
Yes, the reset push button must be pressed
When will you receive the “too low gear” aural warning?
If any landing gear is not down and locked below 500 feet RA and below 190 KIAS
How long after takeoff is the landing gear config inhibited?
2 minutes after weight on wheels to weight off wheels is sensed
When are brake temperature and gear indications removed from the EICAS?
30 seconds if:
Gear is up and locked
Flaps are up
BTMS indications normal
When do landing gear, BTMS indications, and flaps reappear?
- Red BTMS indication
- Selecting flaps or landing gear
