Landing Gear Flashcards
What does it mean when the red light in the gear selector lever is on and steady?
Landing gear is unlocked.
OR
Landing gear and/ or flap standby lowering system explosive start valve is not electrically connected.
What does it mean when the red light in the gear selector lever is flashing?
What are the criteria for this to happen?
The gear not down criteria are met: Gear not locked down. Below 5000ft (on 1013hPa) Below 160kts. Below 85% RPM.
There are black and red lines painted on the nose gear leg. Which must be below the other when on the ground?
Why?
Black must be below red.
If not, the nosewheel may be unable to turn/ castor.
State the ways that you can confirm that the gear is locked down when in the air.
Three green gear indications.
The confirm button tone can be heard when the button is pressed.
An external light on the nosewheel leg is illuminated.
What happens if the gear Confirm button is pressed whilst the gear is down and locked.
A tone is transmitted on Com 1, Com 2 and in the cockpit headset.
What does pushing the brake parachute test switch in the front cockpit do?
What does it do in the rear cockpit?
Moves the brake parachute actuator, and illuminates if successful.
In the rear cockpit, pushing the test switch is just a test of the bulb.
Regarding the braking system, what does a boxed S represent?
The brake pressure is in the green band.
2755 to 3150psi.
Regarding the braking system, what does a steady, unboxed S represent?
The brake pressure is in the amber band.
1250 to 2755psi, or over 3150psi.
Regarding the braking system, what does a flashing, unboxed S represent?
The brake pressure is in the red band.
0 to 1250psi.
What is the maximum residual brake pressure permitted in either left or right brake system on touchdown?
150psi.
What changes about the engine oil pressure warning [OIL caption] once the landing gear is locked down?
The warning comes on instantly if low px is detected - the system no longer has a 10 second delay.
What does pressing the gear EMERG ORIDE button do?
What happens if you push it for a second time?
The weight-on-wheels are overridden. This allows the gear to be retracted in an emergency on the ground.
Pushing it a second time will reset the system for normal operation.
Once the standby lowering system has been operated, can the gear and/ or flaps be retracted again?
No.
What happens if the temperature in a tyre exceeds 155 degrees C?
The three fusible plugs will release pressure from the tyre.
What is the purpose of the wheelbrake accumulator?
What should you consider if you have to make use of this system?
To store enough pressure to stop the aircraft in case the Hyd 1 system fails.
If landing with only the accumulator pressure, try to use one single braking motion to bring the aircraft to a stop. Repeated brake applications will drain the accumulator.
