Landforms Flashcards
Landforms achieve equilibrium with the
Processes that act upon them, therefore if the environment remains the same, landforms remain relatively unchanged.
Landforms are a result of
Processes occurring in the environment and can therefore reflect previous environment conditions.
Erosion removes
Material from a location / landform system.
Deposition is the input of material, it occurs when
Transported material settles at a new location.
The lithology of an area
Influences the rates and types of erosion.
Karst landscapes: (3)
Absence of surface streams and lakes.
Complex underground drainage systems.
Barren rocky ground - rock towers and caves.
Faults are
Fractures in Earths crust where displacement has occurred.
If a fault is exposed it
Forms a fault scarp.
If a fault drops beneath two adjacent blocks,
A Horst-graben structure is formed - African Rift Valley.
Igneous landforms: Volcanic neck -
Lava solidifies in the core of a volcano.
Igneous landforms: Boss -
Molten rock forms in a circular intrusion. Once exposed, it may be weathered to give a Tor.
