what makes lumbar vertebrae unique?
they don’t have any of the features unique to cervical or thoracic vertebrae (transverse foramen/superior and inferior costal facets, transverse costal facets)
possible features of lumbar vertebrae
body, transverse process, spinous process, pedicle, superior and inferior articular facets, vertebral foramen, vertebral arch, lamina
possible features of sacrum
promontory, anterior and posterior sacral foramina, sacral canal, sacral hiatus
what two projecting features found of “typical” vertebrae are absent on the sacrum?
spinous process, transverse process
