flexion
decrease the angle between two bones, bending (extension)
extension
increase the angle between two bones, straightening (flexion)
abduction
movement away from the midline (adduction)
adduction
movement towards the midline (abduction)
medial rotation
turning a bone towards the midline along its axis (lateral rotation)
lateral rotation
turning a bone away from the midline along its axis (medial rotation)
elevation
moving a body part superiorly (depression) (only mandible and scapula)
depression
moving a body part inferiorly (elevation) (only mandible and scapula)
protraction
moving a body part anteriorly (retraction) (only mandible and scapula)
retraction
moving a body part posteriorly (protraction) (only mandible and scapula)
pronation
rotating the forearm so that palm faces posteriorly (supination)
supination
rotating the forearm so that palm faces anteriorly (pronation)
plantarflexion
moving the anterior portion of the sole of the foot inferiorly (dorsiflexion)
dorsiflexion
lifting the foot so that the superior surface approaches the shin (plantarflexion)
eversion
turning the sole of the foot laterally (inversion)
