LAB 5 heart Flashcards
what specific kind of tissue makes up the tunica media of blood vessels?
cardiac muscle
why are there three sets of papillary muscles in the right ventricle?
because there is three cusps to tricuspid valve (corresponding)
what is the purpose of the pulmonary semilunar valve?
prevents reflux of blood intro right ventricle
why wouldn’t a cuspid valve work where the pulmonary semilunar valve is located?
valve has to open in direction of blood flow
what kind of blood is carried in the pulmonary arteries?
oxygen poor blood because blood is going to lungs from heart for oxygenation
what kind of blood is carried by the pulmonary veins
oxygen rich blood
why are there only two sets of papillary muscles in the left ventricle?
for two cusps of bicuspid valve
why don’t the fetal lungs need to receive all of the blood coming into the heart?
lungs don’t function in gas exchange prenatally
why does blood bypass the lungs in fetal circulation?
to prevent overwhelming slowly developing lungs
key arteries of thoracic cavity
aorta, brachiocephalic trunk, right subclavian, right common carotid, left common carotid, left subclavian, vertebral, internal thoracic
