Isolation

A

Trash from an isolation room must be disposed of using a double-bagging procedure
The contaminated materials are sealed in the first bag inside of the room.
A second person outside the room seals the bag in another bag and seals it.

Centrifuge

A

Separates solutions by centrifugal force

Safety
Close lid
Use aerosol cover
Balance items according to weight
DO NOT STOP by hand, allow it to stop on its own
Do not use cracked tubes
Clean centrifuge if breakage has occurred

Patient Safety

A

Safety rules
No Running in the hallways
Be aware of your surroundings
Check for spilled liquids
Keep venipuncture equipment away from patient
Clean up after yourself
Avoid touching electrical equipment during a draw
Report any patient problems to the nurse
Replace bedrails in the upright position when you are finished

Always check for a posted sign indicating a patient has a latex allergy. 
Do not use latex gloves or tourniquets
