LD or LDH

A

Lactate dehydrogenase: enzyme found in almost all body cells and release into the plasma when cells are damaged or destroyed.

  • General indicator of tissue and cellular damage.
  • Used to monitor progressive conditions such as anemia
  • High levels seen with: Hemolytic and pernicious anemia, infections, sepsis, AKI, Acute liver disease, acute muscle injury, pancreatitis, bone fractures, certain cancers

A

Methylmalonic acid

  • often ordered with homocysteine test
  • used as a follow up to B12 test
  • If there is not enough B12 then MMA begins to rise
  • The confirmatory test for B12 deficency
