Lab Test 1 Flashcards
What is this?

Standard Anatomical Position
The erect position of the body with the face directed forward, the arms at the side, and the palms of the hands facing forward, used as a reference in describing the relation of body parts to one another.
Which menengie is F?

Dura mater
Transverse Plane
Divides the body into superior and inferior parts. It is perpendicular to the coronal and sagittal planes.

Deep
Inside the body/organ

Distal
Away from the heart; for extremities

Pleural cavity

Which menengie is C?

Pia mater
Medial
Toward the midline

Dorsal
Back

Which cavity is #3?

Vertebral (spinal) cavity

Body Cavities
Dorsal (back): cranial and vertebral
Ventral (front): thoracic, abdominopelvic, abdominal, and pelvic

Parietal pleura
The parietal pleura is the outer membrane which is attached to the inner surface of the thoracic cavity.

Which cavity is #7?

Pelvic cavity

Which cavity is #6?

Abdominal cavity

Sagittal plane
Divides the body into right and left halves.
Coronal Plane
Divides the body into dorsal and ventral parts.

Ipsilateral
Same side

Which cavity is #2?

Cranial Cavity

Which cavity is #7?

Pelvic cavity

Inferior
Below

Posterior
Rear

Lateral
Away from the midline

Visceral
Inner

Proximal
Toward the heart; for extremities

What’s the mediastinum?
a membranous partition between two body cavities or two parts of an organ, especially that between the lungs.

Ventral
Belly

Contralateral
Opposite sides

Pericardium
membrane enclosing the heart, consisting of an outer fibrous layer and an inner double layer of serous membrane (parietal then visceral).

Where is the pericardial cavity?
Between the lungs

Cortex
Outside of organ (usually refers to kidneys)

Anterior
Front

Which menengie is E?

Arachnoid mater
Superior
Above

Which organ is #5?

Diaphragm
Which cavity is #4?

Thoracic cavity

Visceral pleura
The visceral pleura is the delicate serous membrane that covers the surface of each lung

Parietal
Membrane lining the cavities; outer

Which cavity is #1?

Dorsal Cavity

Which cavity is composed of #6 & 7?

Abdominopelvic cavity

Which cavity is composed of #4-7?

Ventral cavity

Three anatomical planes
Sagittal (medial), tranverse (horizontal), coronal (frontal)

Superficial
Toward outside of the body/organ

Mesentaries
a fold of the peritoneum that attaches the stomach, small intestine, pancreas, spleen, and other organs to the posterior wall of the abdomen. Suspends the viscera.

Medulla
Inside of organ (usually refers to kidneys)
