Follow all written directions and verbal instructions carefully

Never perform an experiment without your teacher’s permission

Always wear a laboratory apron.

Wear safety goggles when needed.
Wash goggles with soap and warm water, or using an anti-fog spray.

No contact lenses in the lab
Chemicals can get between lenses and eyes.

Wear the right clothing for lab work.
Do not wear necklace or any other dangling jewelry, (earing)
Take off neckties and wristwatch
Tie long hair or wear hairnet or headband
Wear cotton clothing
Wear closed toe shoes

Lab table should only have your lab notebook, book, pencil, and require material and equipment.

Food, beverage, and chewing gum is never allowed in the classroom and lab

Never taste chemicals or touch them with your bare hands. Keep hands away from face and mouth while working

Check all glassware for cracks.

Be careful with hot plates and other heat sources
Keep body and clothing away from flame
Do not touch hot plate after turning off, or glassware and other apparatus
Never leave a heating container unsupervised.

Be sure your hands are dry before using electrical equipment
Turn off electrical equipment before plugging in
Turn off when finished
Unplug before leaving lab, make sure to turn off first before unplugging

Know the fire drill procedures and the locations of exits.

For all chemicals, take only what you need.
Do not put leftovers back in the bottle.
Ask your teacher what to do with leftovers.

If you spill a chemical on your skin, wash it off using the sink faucet. The report to teacher.

Know the location and operations of the safety showers and eyewash stations.
If you clothes catch on fire walk to the safety shower and turn it on
If chemicals get in your eyes, immediately go to the eyewash station and lower your head so your eyes are in the runner water. Wash your eyes for 15 minutes, call your teacher while doing this.

After working, clean the work area and all equipment.
Do not throw solid waste into the sink
Pour liquids down the drain or appropriate storage bottles.
Clean up spills and accidents immediately.

Always wash your hands with soap and water before you leave the lab

If you experience a problem with your experiment, stop and ask the teacher for help.

All accidents should be reported to your teacher, no matter how minor.
