Lab Manual/Operative I Review Flashcards
What is the point of incremental placing?
Decrease C-Factor (by increasing the number of unbound surfaces)
What does c-factor stand for?
Configuration factor = bounded/unbounded surfaces
What does a higher C-factor indicate?
higher stress due to polymerization shrinkage towards unbounded surfaces while being constrained to bonded areas
What does a lower c-factor indidcate?
Lower stress because more unbounded surfaces which distributed the internal stress
What teeth is bulk filling used for?
Deep posterior cavities
What are pros of bulk filling?
easy placement, efficient, better adaptability
What are cons of bulk filling?
increases polymerization stress due to more bounded surfaces than unbounded, usually more translucent, less esthetic, can’t replicate layering
What is the tofflemire used for?
Large, posterior, amalgam restorations
What is the universal matrix?
Tofflemire
Where is the wooden wedge placed?
On lingual side
What is the purpose of the wedge?
Seal the gingival margin
What is the t-band used in?
Pedodontics
What is the automatrix system used for?
Severely damaged teeth
What is a limitation of automatrix?
must hold in place with non-dominant hand when there are no undercuts and doesn’t work well when tooth defects are far apically
What is the copper band use for?
Also severely damaged tooth
What is the limitation of copper band?
useful on teeths prepared for crowns and hard to obtain contact, stabilized with non-dominant hand, can harden if work it too much
What is the original palodent useful for?
composite preparations
What is a pro of the original palodent system?
Rounded contour and contact
What is a drawback of the original palodent?
Doesn’t allow wedging and always requires rubber dam
What are the pros of the palodent plus system?
Four choices of band and two choices of rings
What materials come with the palodent plus?
Wedge, sectional matrix band, and ring
