LAB Immune and Lymphatic System Flashcards
What is the function/ purpose of the Lymphatic System?
The Lymphatic system id the location where most immune responses occur. The immune system coolects and returns ISF and repacks and redelivers lipids
What are the components of the Lymphatic system?
Lymph, organs, tissues, vessels
Lymphatic organs-
and examples
lymphatic organs are surrounded by a capsule
Examples: Thymus, Spleen, red bone marrow, lymph nodes
Lymphatic tissues-
And examples
Lymohatic tissues do not hace a capsule
Examples: nodules (MALTs) and aggregations of nodules (Peyers patches, tonsils)
Primary lymphatic organs/tissues
primary lymphatic organs/tissues is the site of lymphocyte production and maturation(gain immunocompetence)
secondary lymphatic organs/tissues
secondary lymphatic organs and tissues are the site where lymphocytes initiate adaptive immune response
functions of the spleen(3)
- filters blood
- eliminates old erythrocytes
- reservoir for thrombocytes
peyer patches
aggresstions of noduels in small intestine
MALTs
single noduels in connective tissue of mucous membranes
