parmecium caudatum
parmecium caudatum
a protozoan, a type of heterotrophic protist that reproduce by binary fission
Type of cell division
Mitosis results in two daughter cells that have the same number of chromosomes as the parent cell.
Meiosis results in four cells that have half as many chromosomes as the parent cell.
I. Asexual Reproduction- Forming buds by mitosis, that become new polyps
II. Sexual Reproduction- (Diecious- male and female medusa)
.Egg is fertilized by sperm
.Zygote is created
.Develop into blastula
.Develop into plantula larva
.Develop into polyps
.Polyps can branch – they have many feeding heads because they are one time use only
.Reproductive polyps- gonangium – produces medusae
.Medusae swim, cluster and relese sperm and eggs into water to be fertilized
budding
Hydra Polyps, freshwater polyps
only have polyp stage
form gonads on side of body
or asexually reproduce via buds
The 3 types of life cyles that occur in protist
- haploid adult
- diploid adult
- alternation of generations
The budding stage of a jellyfish is called
STROBILA;
a stack of immature larval jellyfish formed on a sessile polyplike form by sequential budding.
conidia on conidiophores of a ascomycetes
Aspergillus with conidia on conidiophores( an ascomycetes- sac fungi)
3 types of life cycle
haploid adult
diploid adult
alternations of generations
Life cyle of haplod adults
life cycle of diploid adults ( eg. algae)
Alternation of generations
A multicellular haploid generation alternates with a multicellular diploid generation
Life cycle of ferns
