Q

On inhalation, what does the sacrum do? On exhalation, what does the sacrum do?

A
  • lordotic curve decreases, base goes posterior while apex moves anterior
  • lordotic curve increases, base goes anterior while apex moves posterior

Q

Bilateral Sacral Flexion MET/ART

A
  1. Prone patient
  2. Monitor SI joint w/hand
  3. Abduct and IR both legs until you feel SI motion on each side
  4. Place hand on sacral apex
  5. MET: push down and up as patient inhales, resist on exhalation ART: push down and up repeatedly until barrier is gone
  6. Reassess using respiratory motion test

Bilateral Sacral Extension MET/ART

A
  1. Prone patient
  2. Monitor SI joint w/hand
  3. Abduct and ER both legs until you feel SI motion on each side
  4. Place hand on sacral base
  5. MET: Resist as patient inhales, push down and inferior as patient exhales ART: Push down and inferior repeatedly until barrier is gone

Unilateral Sacral Flexion MET/ART

A
  1. Prone patient
  2. Monitor SI joint on affected side
  3. IR affected leg
  4. Put heel of hand on affected side ILA
  5. MET: push down and upward as patient inhales, resist as patient exhales ART: Repeatedly push down and upward

Q

Forward Sacral torsion MET

A
  1. Patient lays with axis side down.
  2. Hips and knees flexed at 90 while hugging the table.
  3. Monitor space between L5 and S1, and continue flexing patient until motion is felt.
  4. Patient breathes 3x, extending their hand towards the floor after each.
  5. Push patient’s legs off table until they reach sidebending barrier.
  6. MET: Patient pushes legs up as you push down. 7. Reassess sacrum

Q

Backward Sacral torsion MET

A
  1. Patient lateral recumbent with axis side down
  2. Take patient’s top leg and flex it 90 while patient leans back on table further after 3 exhales
  3. Sit in front patient, monitor space between L5-S1 and flex top leg until motion is felt.
  4. Now let the flexed leg hang downward to barrier.
  5. MET: Pt pushes leg up as you push down 6. Reassess sacrum
