Lab 4 Exam Flashcards
Light touch Grade/Scores:
5/5 = Intact 4/5 = Minimally Impaired 2-3/5 = Moderately Impaired 1/5 = Severely Impaired 0/5 = Absent
Pin Prick Grade/Score:
5/5 = Normal
3-4/5 = Impaired
0-2/5 or pt does not distinguish between sharp and dull ends = Absent
Hot/Cold Grade/Scores:
5/5 = Intact 3-4/5 = Impaired 0-2/5 = Absent
Vibration Grade/Scores:
5/5 = Intact 3-4/5 = Impaired 0-2/5 = Absent
Extinction -
Grade/Score =
When should only be tested?
Extinction - identify double simultaneous stimulation
5/5 = Intact
3-4/5 = Impaired
0-2/5 = Absent
Should only be tested if patient has intact light touch sensation
Deep Tendon reflexes:
If increase deep tendon reflex?
If decrease?
Increase = UPM syndrome Decrease = LMN Syndrome
Deep tendon nerve roots: (mnemonic) Plantarflexors = Quadriceps = Biceps/Brachioradialis = Triceps =
Plantarflexors (tibial) = 1-2 buckle my should (S1-S2)
Quadriceps (femoral) = 3-4, kick the door (L3-4)
Biceps (musculotaneous) /Brachioradialis (radialis) = 5-6 pickup sticks (C5-6)
Triceps (radialis) = 7-8 lay them straight (C7-8)
Purpose of hoffman’s sign and babinski?
Confirm UMN lesion
Hoffman’s sign:
Test?
(+)/(-)
Test - flick distal phalanx of third finger
(+) - flex thumb and/or index finger
(-) - no motion
Babinski:
Test?
(+)/(-)
Test - stroke lateral aspect of plantar surface of foot and move medially across base of toes
(+) - ext/dorsiflexion with fanning of 4 toes
(-) - flex of big toe or no response
Hyporeflexia -
- Absent or diminished response to tapping
- Usually indicates disease that involves one or more of 2 neuron reflex arc itself
Hyperreflexia -
- Hyperactive/repeating reflexes
- Interruption of corticospinal and other descending pathways that influence reflex arc (above level of spinal reflex pathway)
