Lab 2: Examination Pt 2 Flashcards
What is the purpose of positioning immediately post op?
Prevent development of joint contractures while considering comfort and function and try to minimize edema with positioning
What are common contracture sites for TFA?
Hip flexion, abduction, ER
What are common contracture sites for TTA?
Hip flexion, abduction, ER, knee flexion
What are common contracture sites for THA?
GH flexion, adduction, IR
What are common contracture sites for TRA?
GH flexion, adduction, IR, elbow flexion
How frequent should positioning be changed immediately post op?
2 hours
What are the four main positions following an amputation?
Supine, prone, sidelying, sitting
What is the purpose of compression following amputation?
Control edema and promote an ideal shape of the residual limb and stable volume to allow for use of prosthesis
When can a shrinker be used?
Once more consistent volume is reached
What size and how many ace wraps should be used for a transtibial amputation?
2-3, 4” ace wraps
What size and how many ace wraps should be used for a transfemoral amputation?
2-3, 4-6” ace wraps
What size and how many ace wraps should be used for a transradial or transhumeral amputation?
2-3, 3” ace wraps
What are 9 key principles for residual limb wrapping?
- No clips
- Anchor first
- Greater pressure distally and cover corners early to avoid making dog ears
- Avoid both medial and lateral wrapping in same turn
- Avoid wrinkles
- Avoid windows
- 3-4 layers
- Rewrap every 4-6 hours
- Show not be kept in place for more than 12 hrs without re-wrapping
What is the AAOS value for knee flexion?
What is the AAOS value for knee extension?
