7: Gait Flashcards
What are the 4 components of stance phase?
- Initial contact
- Loading response
- Midstance
- Terminal stance
What are the 4 components of swing phase?
- Preswing
- Initial swing
- Midswing
- Terminal swing
When is initial contact?
Instance the heel contacts the ground
When is loading response?
Heel contact to foot flat
When in midstance?
Foot flat until the contralateral extremity lifts off the ground
When is terminal stance?
From midstance through heel off of the weight bearing extremity
When is preswing?
Heel off until toe off of the weight bearing extremity
When is initial swing?
From toe off until max knee flexion
When is midswing?
From max knee flexion until tibia is in a vertical position
When is terminal swing?
From vertical tibia until just before initial contact
Where is the GRF at the ankle, knee, and hip at initial contact?
Ankle: posterior
Knee: anterior
Hip: anterior
What is velocity?
Rate of linear forward motion of the body
What is cadence?
Number of steps taken per until of time
What is stride length?
Heel strike to ipsilateral heel strike
What is step length?
Heel strike to contralateral heel strike
