Lab 2 Flashcards
Describe the motion of the subject’s eyes during vestibular ocular reflex (VOR). is it smooth or saccadic?
smooth - as the head tilts one direction (eg right), the eyes rotate in the opposite direction (eg left).
does the motion of the subject’s eyes differ between vestibular ocular reflexes of different degrees or velocities?
the motion continues to be smooth regardless of the degrees or velocities, but the speed of the motion of the eye is proportional to the velocity, and the range of motion of the eyes is proportional to the difference degree
describe the motion of he subject’s eyes during pursuit. is it smooth or sacccadic?
smooth, but the pursuit of targets moving with velocities of greater than 30°/s tends to require catch-up saccades
how does the pattern of the eog recorded during the ‘slow saccadic’ reading of the first paragraph compare to the normal reading of the same paragraph? how does the motion of the subject’s eyes differ between these readings?
the EOG pattern shows jumps in amplitude as the eyes travel to each wrod. slow reading had longer average fixation durations, shorter saccades, and more regressions.
the subject’s eyes had more deliberate pauses during the slow reading, and faster jumps between each word on the line.
how does the pattern for convergence differ from the pattern for divergence?
To look at an object closer by, the eyes rotate towards each other (convergence), while for an object farther away they rotate away from each other (divergence). thats why convergence is a high amplitude as its rotating one way and divergence is a negative amplitude as theyre rotating the opposite way
describe the three ‘directions’ of motion that are controlled by the opposing eye muscles that were studied in this exercise
horizontal, vertical, torsional
