Lab 1 Euglenozoa - LAB EXAM Flashcards
Kinetoplast
Network of circular DNA inside a large mitochondrion that contains many copies of the mitochondrial genome, usually disk shaped. Dark, opague, in pictures.
Kinetosome
Another term for basal body.
Dark line from flagella, or udulating membrane in pictures.
Undulating membrane
Fin-like extension usually associated with the flagellum
Axostyle
Sheet of microtubules found in certain microbial eukaryotes. It arises from the bases of the flagella, sometimes projecting beyond the end of the cell, and is often flexible or contractile, and so may be involved in movement and provides support for the cell.
Amastigote
Choanomastigote
Promastigote
Opisthomastigote
Epimastigote
Trypomastigote
Euglenozoa
The euglenozoa are a large group of flagellate excavates. They include a variety of common free-living species, as well as a few important parasites, some of which infect humans.
Difference between Trypanosoma and Leishmania genus
The major difference between these two genera is that primary diagnostic form found in Leishmania is the amastigote, whereas that of Trypanosoma is the trypomastigote
