La retina Flashcards

1
Q

Vitreous anatomy

A

Ligament of Weiger: collagenous fibers that attach to the posterior lens capsule

Berger space: potential space between posterior peripheral lens and anterior cortical gel

Q

ILM
MLM
ELM

are made of …

A

ILM - foot plates of Muller cells contained in Inner Nuclear Layer

MLM - inner 1/3 of OPL where synaptic and desmosomal connections occur between photoreceptor inner fibers and processes of bipolar cells

ELM - zonular attachments between photoreceptors and Muller cells

Q

Vascular supply of retina

A

Central retinal artery (from ophthalmic artery) - divides into four branches

  • radial peripapillary network
  • superficial vascular plexus
  • deep capillary plexus

Choroidal circulation via posterior ciliary arteries - Haller and Sattler layers then choriocapillaris then venules to vortex veins
