LA components Flashcards
what two types of anaesthesia can there be? where are they metabolised?
ester (blood) or amide (liver)
give an example of some ester LAs
cocaine
benzocaine
procaine
tetracaine
give some amide LAs
mepivicaine
bupivicaine
lidocaine
prilocaine
articane
give the components of LA and their usages
hydrophobic aromatic region = enter membrane and operate in cell
ester / amide (type of LA)
basic amine side chain (hydrophilic) = so can be water diluted and allow flow in tissue fluid
vasoconstrictor = inhibit natural dilation of local. increases duration of the local.
how does the vasoconstrictor in local work?
when should you be wary?
act on receptors on smooth muscle to cause constriction.
act on alpha receptors.
felypressin and optipressin should never be given to a pregnant woman as it can induce labour.
