L6 - Chromatography Flashcards
1
Q
How do you calculate Rf?
A
Distance moved by spot / distance moved by solvent
2
Q
How can the chromatogram be analysed?
A
By measuring distance travelled by solvent front, and the distance from the origin to the centre of each spot
3
Q
Why are some amino acids more difficult to identify than others?
A
Because they have very close Rf values
4
Q
Why do some amino acids move faster than others?
A
Smaller molecules are easier for the solvent to pick up and move than larger molecules
