L5: Aims + Hypotheses Flashcards
1
Q
What is an Aim?
A
A precise statement about the purpose of a study and what it intends to find out. Should include what is being studied and what the study is trying to achieve
2
Q
What is the second step?
A
Decide upon the IV and DV and operationalise them
3
Q
What is the third step?
A
Decide on a Hypothesis and operationalise it. A hypothesis is a precise, testable statement about the expected outcome of an investigation
4
Q
What are the two type of hypothesis?
A
- Null hypothesis: states the IV has no effect on DV
- Experimental Hypothesis (2 types): states IV has an effect on DV
5
Q
What are the two types of experimental hypotheses?
A
- Non-directional Hypothesis (two tailed): does not state direction of predicted differences between conditions
- Directional Hypothesis (one tailed): states direction of predicted difference between condition (will de/increase)
