Standard Approach Calls to the DA/MDA
LOC Alive GS Alive Within One Dot 500' above DA/MDA 200' above 100' above DA/MDA
Standard Approach Calls at/past DA/MDA
- Approach Lights, continue/Go Visual/Go Missed
- Landing/Missed Approach
What airspeed do we fly for a hold in an SR20?
120 knots
65% power/22”MP
How will you execute a Precision Approach in an SR20? (Airspeeds and configurations)
3 min/nm out from IAF (or FAF as applicable) - 110 knots (55% power/23” MP)
1 Dot below GS - Reduce power 25%/12”MP, Flaps 50%, 100 knots
**1/2 Dot below GS - Before landing checklist complete
GS intercept - follow down and make Standard Approach Calls
How will you execute a NON-Precision Approach in an SR20? (Airspeeds and configurations)
3 min/nm out from IAF (or FAF as applicable) - 110 knots (55% power/23” MP)
(When inbound, set ALT bug to MDA. If using GPS make sure APRCH Mode is activated)
0.5 miles to FAF - Reduce power 25%/12”MP, Flaps 50%, 100 knots
**Before landing checklist complete
FAF - Reduce power to maintain 100 knots while descending around 700fpm
Make Standard Approach Calls
MDA - Level off, set power to 55%/23”MP to maintain 100 knots until VDP/MAP is reached
If at the DA we announce “Approach Lights Continue” what does this allow us to do?
Descend below the DA to a height of 100’ above TDZE
What airspeed should you maintain while executing a circling approach?
75 KIAS (max gross WT)
How do we calculate Vref if not specified, and what is its significance?
1.3 X Vso
Approximate speed for flying a stabilized final approach.
Instrument takeoffs:
Hold breaks, Power 50%/22”MP
Instruments aligned
Release brakes, Power 100%, engine parameters check
Vr 67 knots, rotate
Climb out at Vy (96) until 50’ AGL
500’ AGL climb check and cruise climb at 105 knots
Maintain rwy HDG until 1000’ AGL unless DP or ATC insturctions
Sample Approach Briefing:
Approach, location.
Frequency tuned and identified.
Inbound course is 095°, and is set on the HSI.
GPS 1 and PFD are set for the approach and crossfilled into GPS 2.
Initial altitude is 2000’, DA is 255’, TDZE is 55’.
Missed approach is runway heading to 1000’ then a climbing left turn to 2000’ direct to the Sanford NDB and hold.
Standard calls.
