Supreme power is vested in the people and exercised through a system of representation, typically involving free and fair elections.
Democracy
- There is a close relationship between the executive and legislative bodies
- The government is headed by a Prime Minister
- The Prime Minister is aided by a cabinet, chosen among the legislators in the parliament.
Parliamentary Democracy
Power is divided between a central federal government and member states, each with its own democratic processes.
Federal Democracy
- It is a rule by an individual with absolute power and no legal restraints.
- Modern usage describes dictatorial or authoritarian states characterized by: Violent oppression, use of force, military force
Tyranny
- A form of government where the military holds power, often established through coup d’état
- Military officials divide power and positions amongst themselves
