L26 Flashcards
When does healing by first intention occur?
When the injury involves only the epithelial layer
What is healing by second intention?
When there is extensive tissue loss
What is excuberant granulation tissue (proud flesh)
Characterized by excessive amounts of granulation tissue that protrudes above the skin
What is hypertrophic scar?
Excessive collagen accumulation, contains abundant myofibroblasts
What is a keloid?
Progression beyond the original area of injury without regression
What is Desmoids?
Excuberant proliferation of fibroblasts following incisional scars or traumatic injury
What is a contracture?
Causes wound deformity
What are venous leg ulcers?
Develop in elderly people as a result of chronic venous hypertension
What are arterial ulcers?
Develop in individuals with atherosclerosis of peripheral arteries
What are diabetic ulcers?
happen at the legs, tissue necrosis caused by ischemia
