L25 Flashcards
How does Regeneration occur?
Through the proliferation of adjacent surviving cells
What are labile tissues?
Cells that are rapidly replaced by proliferation of mature cells
What are stable tissues?
Cells with minimal proliferative activity
What are permanent tissues?
Cells that are terminally differentiated and non differentiated in postnatal life
What are colony stimulating factors?
They drive the correction of loss of blood cells by proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells
What cell population is involved in tissue regeneration in parenchyma?
Stable cells
What are the 2 steps of scar formation?
Hemostatic plug formation and inflammation
what is hemostatic plug formation?
The stoppage of bleeding minutes after injury via fibrin entanglement composed of platelets
what is the role of inflammation in scar formation?
Chemokines released from the platelets that function as chemotactic agents to recruit neutrophils and monocytes
What does fibroblast proliferation do?
Lay down collagen fibers that form the scar
What do epithelial cells do in scar formation?
Migrate over wound to cover it up
what do endothelial cells do in scar formation?
Proliferate to form new blood vessels (angiogenesis)
What is the purpose of remodeling?
to increase wound strength
What is responsible for the degradation of collagen and other ECM components?
Matrix metalloproteinases
