L22 - Mol Biology and biotech Flashcards
GWAS (Genome wide association studies)
- Hypothesis-free way of identifying genome regions associated with a trait
- Linking phenotypic differences to genomic variations between populations
GWAS requires a large panel with phenotypic variation + high throughput method to phenotype
Transcriptomics
Gene expression can be different:
•for different genes in the same family
• or the same gene in different
conditions/tissues
(Just because there is a gene, it doesn’t mean it is always expressed)
Biotechnology in postharvest research
RNAi: Gene Silencing (Protection against viruses)
CRISPR: Gene Editing
Agrobacterium - mediated transformation
Use of agrobacterium’s plasmid to transfer desired DNA fragment and make transgenic plants (See slide 23)
