L11: Physiological Assessments Flashcards
What are the blood pressure indicators to stop a test?
- Significant drop in SBP (systolic blood pressure) of >10mmHg despite an increase in exercise intensity
- Excessive rise in blood pressure: SBP reaches >250mmHg or DBP reaches >150mmHg
What are the anthropometric measures?
How to assess body size or dimension.
- Skinfold (for Body Composition)
- Body Mass Index (BMI)
- Waist-to-hip ratio (WHR)
What does body composition refer to?
Proportion of lean tissue to body-fat tissue.
What is normal BMI?
18.5-24.9
What is the BMI formula?
Weight (kg)/ Height (m)^2
Is the apple (android) or pear (gynoid) shape at greater health risk?
Apple as they have a higher Waist-to-Hip ratio.
What is cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF)?
How well the body can perform dynamic activity using large muscle groups at a moderate to high intensity for extended periods of time. CRF depends on the efficiency and interrelationship of the cardiovascular, respiratory and skeletal muscle systems.
What are the methods for defining Maximum Heart Rate?
- 208 - (0.7 x Age)
2. 206.9 - (0.67 x Age)
How to set up Submaximal Talk Test for VT1?
- Small increments, increasing steady-state HR by 5 bpm per stage.
- Determine appropriate increments that will increase by 5bpm (incline, speed etc)
- Determine time needed for each stage
What is the eventual goal of VT1?
Individual should be able to talk with minimal discomfort, reflects an associated increase in tidal volume that should not compromise breathing rate/ability to talk.
